You're in for a reading treat Here is Runner's World Contributing Editor Hal Higdon's account of the classic duel between Alberto Salazar and Dick Beardsley at the 1982 Boston Marathon. Salazar and Beardsley hammered at each other relentlessly on a brutally hot day. Neither runner was quite the same afterwards. This 12,000-word mini-book tells the full story of what many historians consider the top distance running mano a mano of all time.
Reviewer Adam Bourque had this to say “If you're a big fan of the marathon and in particular, Boston Marathon history, you'll love this tale of the now legendary 'duel' between Salazar and Beardsley. The story rivets you with step-by-step analysis of the race from post race interviews with the two runners. You get the inside story about what was going on before and during the race as it unfolded in the minds of Salazar and Beardsley. Higdon's tale gives the reader a great appreciation for the race and mental battles that unfold in such an epic showdown. Truly enjoyable. You can read this in one sitting on a long evening. Great motivation and highly recommended.”
This is the full story available at a price less than you would pay for your monthly issue of Runner's World.

The Duel eBook Hal Higdon
Superb feature on the epic battle between Salazar and Beardsley at the 82 sun drenching Boston Marathon where both men pushed themselves to such exhausting efforts in such brutal conditions, many top competitors dropped out including Grete Waitz, that neither man was ever quite the same afterwards. This description is not so much a book but an extended magazine feature without pictures. For the full treatment, I would recommend 'Duel in the Sun' by Brant that has much more detail with pictures and is more like a full magazine edition in contrast to Higdon's straight forward, yet well written piece.Product details

The Duel eBook Hal Higdon Reviews
I've known about this "duel" and Hal Higdon's book for a long time. I am so glad I finally read the story. What an incredible race. I completed in "Boston" a couple of times, including 2013, and I read this story to grasp a deeper understanding of the history of the Boston Marathon.
If you love running, this is the book! Pacy, gripping and you can feel every tread. The pain and the glory )
I was not following distance running during the time of the duel. This book helped me feel as though I was right there, witnessing each moment! Easy yet compelling read!
In February I ran my first marathon using Hal Higdon's training plan and having read several of his running books. From these books, I know of Hal as an easy-to-read author of training material. However, "The Duel" demonstrates Higdon's true strength as a writer. The riveting pose which with he writes matches the action of the race between Salazar and Beardsley. Anyone who appreciates running would find this book fascinating. Anyone who thinks that running is boring would change their mind after reading this well-written story of a dramatic race.
What a great story and it is only more dramatic that in a way neither runner was ever again as good as that day.
This was a very fast and fun read. I personally love sports stories that break down a specific event and backstory. Hal Hingdon's The Duel does this an more. I am not a marathon runner but was thoroughly entertained by this peek into the elite marathoners world.
Estoy comenzando a correr y me pareció bastante inspirador. Sobre todo con las conclusiones que van sacando los participantes durante el transcurso de la carrera. Ahora veo a los corredores de maratones, incluso, con más respeto que antes.
