If you are in need of light diversion, this is a sure thing. The plot twists and turns unpredictably, and you get your HEA in the end. Characters are wonderfully rounded and very endearing. Every time I take up one of Cadells books I feel transported, maybe to wonderland. It feels like her stories are told under a different colored light. Anything can happen.Product details

I enjoyed this book, although I had a pretty good idea who the culprit was very early on. The characters were delightuful & I loved the way the little family mystery fell right into place.
This is my third Elizabeth Cadell book. I enjoyed the story and the characters. Uncle Oswald learned the perils of trying to be a match maker and Hugo learns the truth about his past.
So excited that this book is finally available in digital format! I loved this story (love all Cadell books, but this is one of my re-read favorites!). Paul's journey still makes me smile.
Lighthearted and delightful! The book shows its age--training for the civil service in Africa no longer looks like a good career move, and the people are just as stuck in the 1950s. But the book is a joy to read, with memorable characters and an unexpected plot. No message, just fun.
Love her books but this one didn't seem fully realized in terms of character or plot, tho' the narration and dialogue are entertaining.
My new favorite Cadell book! I just recently discovered this author when suggested her books to me while reading D. E. Stevenson. Her characters are wonderful, and for the most part, likeable (the villains--not so much!). She lets you "discover" their personalities on your own and the dialogue is witty and never stilted or unrealistic. These books are fun, pleasant, comfort reads--try them, you'll like them!
Journey's Eve is a delightful period piece -- first published in 1953, it is set in England and introduces a most interesting cast of characters. Elizabeth Cadells' books are full of gentle humor, some surprises, and are just the thing when you are wishing for a kinder world with likeable heroes and heroines. I love to end a stressful day with a Cadell book at my bedside!
